The Urban Health & Wellnesss Group

In December 2014, a group of physicians along with other healthcare and business professionals came together to realize the shared vision of providing top-of-the-line healthcare services to underserved communities in South Florida and beyond. From this braintrust the Urban Health and Wellness Group, Inc. (UHWG) was born. Helmed by Dr. Anita Petteway-Tyler, UHWG is a not-for-profit corporation formed under the laws of the State of Florida.

The team has an unwavering commitment to the work of developing healthy communities by first addressing the needs of the underserved. In just over a year from the commencement of its journey, the UHWG is set to open its first medical center in the great city of Opa-Locka, FL. The city’s population is comprised of over 65% Black or African American with over 35% claiming a Hispanic or Latino background. With a median household annual income of just over $20,000, Opa-Locka is the ideal locale for UHWG to commence its very necessary mission.

Having pooled their individual talents together with both public and private resources, UHWG shall ensure the success of the first multi-specialty medical center of Opa-Locka. Improving the health of this community is only the beginning. Already the team has plans to replicate their efforts to address a growing need and a growing gap in healthcare services.
